Welcome to the first entry in the Motivational Monday’s series!
In this series I’ll be sharing inspiring quotes, stories, videos and other material that may provide a little boost to start off your week.
You may be overjoyed about the start of a new week or you may be doing work that’s not in alignment with who you are and what you love, which is causing you to be less than enthused.
In either case, a little motivation and inspiration can never go wrong, so let’s get to it.
This week’s excerpt is from the classic how-to text on Success: Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill:
“Truly, “thoughts are things,” and powerful things at that when they are mixed with definiteness of purpose, persistence, and a burning desire for their translation into riches, or other material objects.”
In the first chapter of his book, Napoleon Hill states this quote and goes on to tell the story of Edwin C. Barnes, a man who had an impulse to work with Thomas Edison. When this desire first came to him, Barnes had no way of making it a reality – he didn’t know Edison and he didn’t have the money to buy a railroad ticket to visit Edison. But what Barnes did have was a burning desire, so he proceeded any way.
Barnes found a way to make it to Edison’s office and announced he had come to go into business with Edison. Of course this did not happen immediately, but Edison eventually gave Barnes a job.
Later Barnes had the opportunity to sell one of Edison’s inventions, the Edison Dictating Machine, because Edison’s salesmen were not enthusiastic about the device. Barnes did such a good job of selling the machine that Edison gave him a contract to distribute and market it across the country.
There are so many little lessons in this story which you may have identified – I’ll highlight a few:
Just remember, all things are possible. Any sincere desire you have that’s backed by powerful, positive emotions can be achieved. In fact, the moment you form the desire, it’s already done; you merely need to line up with it.
What is your burning desire?
Find a little quiet time for yourself today to ask yourself this important question and know that it is indeed possible if you apply the proper formula to make it a reality.
As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts and insights.
